The Piazza del Duomo (Cathedral Square) in Milan, Italy houses some of the city's and country's most important buildings. Nonetheleast of which is the Duomo or cathedral. Many churches and cathedrals in Europe took over 100 years and generations of designers and builders to complete. The Duomo in Milan took SIX hundred years and 78 different architects to complete. It is the fifth largest Christian church in the world and 109, 641 square feet and is the oldest on that list of five. It allegedly houses one of the nails used in Jesus' crucifixion.
If you like gothic-style statues, this is your place. There are 3,400 statues, 135 gargoyles and 700 figurines in the Milan Duomo. More than any building in the world. Photo © copyright by Craig Kerr.
