Africa, bird, lilac breasted roller, photo

Don't let the pretty plumage fool you. This is the Honey Badger of African birds. When it comes to defending its nest it just doesn't care. LBRs are extremely aggressive defenders of their territory taking on raptors and other larger birds. When feeding they will swallow small prey on the ground. Larger prey gets flown back to a perch where it is beaten until it's dismembered. They also carry switchblades and brass knuckles. I made that last part up. The switchblade and brass knuckle part. Not the dismembering part. Photo © copyright by Craig Kerr.
