Las Vegas, Nevada

Founded in 1905 as a 110 acre parcel of land adjacent to the Union Pacific Railroad Las Vegas, Nevada legalized gambling in 1935. Today it is one of the world's top travel destinations and claims more five-star hotels than any city in the world. Behind the facade of its dazzling lights and dinging slot machines it is a money making machine keeping approximately $630,000 of its visitor's money every day. About $5 billion annually.

Only hours after The Mirage was opened to the public a man won $4.6 million in the Megabucks jackpot. That's amazing. More amazing: sixteen years later he won $21 million on the same jackpot. Photo © copyright by Craig Kerr.
